When the Partner Cheats.

Once, Acharya Prashant was having a conversation with someone about relationships. The question was simple: what happens when a partner cheats? He smiled and began his story.

"Imagine you’ve been in a relationship for eight years, and then, one fine day, you find out that your partner has been sleeping with someone else. How do you react? You break up, right? Why? Because you feel betrayed. But what does that tell you about your relationship? That the physical aspect was central to it. The moment that physical connection is threatened, the entire foundation crumbles," he said.

He paused, letting the idea sink in before continuing. "Here’s the truth we’re all too reluctant to admit: most relationships are just about sex. We often cover it up with fancy words, like ‘love’ or ‘commitment,’ to make ourselves feel better. But the truth is, when things like cheating happen, we realize what the relationship was really about – it was just physical."

Acharya Prashant leaned back and chuckled. "We are animals, aren’t we? Just like dogs, we can get extremely violent when we feel that our mate is being taken away. There was a sign I once saw that said, ‘How to be cautious of dogs.’ It warned you not to disturb them when they’re eating, when they’re fighting, or – and here’s the interesting part – when they’re mating."

He gestured towards the distant sound of a dog barking. "You see, a dog, even the scrawniest one, will leap at your throat if it’s in the middle of mating. It doesn’t need gifts, promises, or sweet words. The dog knows exactly what it wants and gets straight to it. Done and dusted! Simple, honest."

He smiled knowingly, and then his voice grew more serious. "But we humans, we’re very clever. We spend years in relationships, knowing full well that the physical part is the ultimate goal. But we hide it, pretending we’re seeking something deeper. Take a man and a woman in a relationship – neither of them will confess what they really want. Especially in India, where the woman especially would never admit, ‘All I want is your body.’ But here’s the secret: the man wouldn’t be offended at all if she said that. In fact, honesty would be far better than all the pretense."

He leaned forward, his eyes sharp. "Rarely do we encounter relationships on a higher plane. Sure, we’ve left the jungle behind, but we carry the jungle within us. Our evolutionary history is so recent; we’re still very much animals at heart. We’ve just learned to dress it up with rituals, words, and emotions. But when the truth is exposed – when something like cheating happens – we realize just how much of the jungle is still alive within us."

He nodded toward the sound of barking in the distance. "The jungle is still very much kicking within us. And we keep trying to hide it."

And with that, Acharya Prashant’s story ended.
